If you ask a bespoke software provider "Can you make me a program which trans-widgets our sales figures into PDFs and emails them to our customers?", they will say "Yes, of course!" ... and then they will charge you for it.

But do you really need your sales figures trans-widgeted into PDFs? There may be a simpler alternative, or a better one which doesn't tie your hands if you need to extend the software in future. Unfortunately, it is not in your supplier's interests to tell you that, because that means less work for them.

Get IT Intermediaries to analyse your business needs and draw up a professional specification document for a piece of software which will work efficiently for you. You can be safe in the knowledge that it is not in our interest to over-complicate matters, because we do not benefit from any extra development work.
